Bike Trail on the Broadneck

Update on the long range plan to connect the B&A trail to Sandy Point Park. 1/31/14 from a conversation with Councilman Dick Ladd.

This past year the Broadneck has seen the first tangible results of a long planned bike path along College Parkway. The segment from Cape St. Claire Road to Green Holly Drive is the first of five hoped for segments.  Funding for the next segment to Bay Hills Shopping Center will hopefully be allocated within 2014 and construction begin sometime in 2015-2016.  Beyond that the funding becomes more speculative, but there is hope to reach Route 2 at AA Community College by the end of the decade.

The connection from College Parkway to the Cape Shopping Center will happen this year in the form of a sidewalk from theike trale to the shopping center on the west side of Cape St. Clair Road.

The long term objective of jumping over Route 2 is one that will need a study. Likely points are the the Big Vanilla intersection or the Jones station Road intersection. Don’t expect it to happen in this decade…

The path from Cape St. Clair Road on out to Sandy Point Park is a problematic one. There are two possible paths. Both have to deal with wetland crossings.

The more direct path would have to follow streams along the head of the Little Magothy, cross Bayhead road, and then enter the park (and contend with some park wetlands as well.)

The alternate path would follow the north service road (East College Parkway) over to Bay Head Road. Then it would travel down Bay Head to the park land that reaches over to the north end of Bay Head. The difficulty here is a lack space for a path.
