An announcement from BG & E Utilities
WHO: BG & E and utility helicopter contractor Catalyst
WHAT: BG & E will be using a utility helicopter contractor to inspect BG & E electric transmission equipment, including towers, poles and wires in the central Maryland service area. Area residents and motorists may see the helicopter hovering near power lines and rights of way or following a flight path along electric transmission rights of way.
WHEN: The inspections that require the use of a helicopter are expected to be completed in July and August, weather permitting.
WHERE: Helicopter inspections will take place along BG & E electric transmission rights of way in Howard County, Baltimore County, Prince Georges County and Anne Arundel County.
WHY: The inspection is part of BG & Es focus on continued electric service reliability for customers. The helicopter provides an aerial perspective on equipment and allows BG & E to inspect the system more efficiently than using ground inspections alone. BG & E crews will also continue to inspect power lines and equipment from the ground. Any worn or damaged equipment identified by the aerial or ground surveys will be scheduled for repair or replacement.
