As we prepare for the completion of the Patel Child Care Center located off of College Parkway (CP) between the communities of Raintree and Woodfield, we are all aware of the dangers this direct entry/exit– off/on to CP will present.
Based on the work the Broadneck Council and their members did last year with Councilman Dick Ladd, there was a late agreement to add a middle turn lane to the roadway in front of Patel to enable traffic to flow east/west on the paved shoulder sides past the entrance. Patel-we are told–agreed to pay for this center lane paint job.
We know that this special exception for 140 day care level children was agreed to by OPZ as well as the AA County Board of Appeals–without first including the requirement to add the turn lane to this difficult stretch of the Parkway. Thanks to Dick Ladd for working with us to negotiate this additional roadway turnlane enhancement on CP.
The photos here were taken last summer of an accident at the entrance to Raintree that was caused by a driver who was “looking down” and did not see the car stopped in the middle of the road attempting to turn into Raintree. There was also another accident at this intersection several weeks later that involved a County Police car–same location and same reason–did not see the car stopped to turn into Raintree.
With all the traffic generated by the AACC in this area and more potential drivers “looking down” as they approach the turns into Raintree and Woodfield near the College Manor traffic light, we are hoping for a fast resolution to the need for a middle turn lane in front of Patel.
I will contact OPZ to see what the plans are for the painting of the middle turn lane and provide the most current information as to when the work order will be completed.
Thanks to Greg Pieper for sending us these photos. These accidents never made the Capital Gazette newspaper.
School days are almost upon us….more information to follow.
