After the 2007-8 dredging of the channel in the upper part of Whitehall Creek (partially funded by Amberley residents), the County planned a Restoration and Retrofit (R&R) of the headwaters to closely follow the dredging but has deferred the R&R project for six years, threatening the dredging site with new silt from the creek.
In 2012, the BCC requested a study of the status of the channel with an assessment of any damage due to the delay in the R&R, and the removal of any backfill caused by the delay.
The County hired a contractor to perform soundings in the channel. Results indicated a low level of new siltation and backfill ranging from 3-6 inches caused by many factors including tidal movement and boat activity.
The County has scheduled construction of siltation barriers on the headwaters of Whitehall Creek for June 15, 2013 and the BCC will monitor that process.
