BROADNECK DEVELOPMENT – MEETING REMINDER: 6/9 6PM

A new housing development has been proposed for almost 11 acres of land off of College Parkway near the intersection with Shore Acres Road. Three parcels will be joined together to create this new development called Freshfields. This will be a 55+ senior development of 30 single family homes and 8 “villas”. It could add over 50-60+ cars a day to the intersection.

The developers will host a Zoom* Community meeting on Wednesday, June 9th at 6:00PM so the public may hear plans for the property and provide their comments. The land that makes up this project is zoned R5, making it eligible for medium density housing. The final decision will be made by the Planning and Zoning Officer, Steve Kaii-Ziegler.
The developers will present their plans for the new community, to include requested modifications on the property that are as follows:
– Impact steep slopes above wetlands.
– Remove three specimen trees.
– Reduce standard road requirements for size and spacing.
Please be sure to join the virtual community Zoom meeting on June 9th at 6pm to make your comments known. Please listen to the presentation and make respectful comments on your concerns. To note: we are advised that the developer will not request any variances for this property but will require modifications to supprt their plans.
*ZOOM Invite for the Freshfield’s Community Meeting:
The Broadneck Council of Communities does not endorse the modifications of environmental requirements that protect sensitive lands when there is viable use without them. Also, the BCC would endorse a proposal to use this property for environmental preservation or low impact recreation, if the funds to purchase the property from the owners were to be found in the County budget. This is a consideration that surrounding communities would find very attractive as an alternative.
